Background

SHA will open Fall of 2024 serving initially Kindergarten through 6th Grade and expanding to 8th grade in our 2nd and 3rd years. Situated on 14 acres, Schoolhouse Academy is located at 225 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT. The campus includes an athletic field, learning garden, outdoor trails, elementary/middle school size gymnasium, stage, and 9 interior classrooms. The current building capacity is 265 students with plans to expand to 400+ students in later years. 

 

Positions Available

Lead Teacher(s); Resident Teacher(s); Kindergarten Teachers

Schoolhouse (SHA) is seeking inspiring and innovative teachers who can ignite passion, instill curiosity, and develop independence & ownership of learning in all students. SHA teachers are dynamic, engaging, and facilitators of learning who support and guide students to reach their maximum potential in school and life. We have a low student-to-teacher ratio (10:1).

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree preferred for Lead Teachers

  • Bachelor’s Degree required for All Teachers

  • Connecticut or New York Teacher Certification, or any State with reciprocity or working towards certification by August 2024.

  • Lead Teachers - At least 2+ years of classroom instruction.

  • Resident Teachers – At least 1+ year of student teaching and/or tutoring

  • Project Based & Hands-on Learning Experience

  • At least 1 Subject/Content Specific Expertise in ELA/Math/Science – (e.g. demonstrated by an MA in Literacy or BA in Mathematics)

  • Mastery-Based Education and Flip Classroom Experience

  • Experience with instructional technology devices – Interactive Whiteboards, IPADs/Tablets, 3D Computers/Printers etc.

  • Experience using technology for lesson planning; teacher-created video lessons; student assignments/activities; Individualized Learning Plans for all students; and student data analytics.

  • Knowledge of child development and demonstrated experience with executing planned lessons to meet the differential needs of each child.

  • Able to improve curriculum and instruction through collaboration as part of a grade level and/or subject focus team.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required to develop rubrics, and examine data and metrics that will enhance student knowledge.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of teachers and administrators

  • Strong written, grammatical, presentation, and verbal communication skills

  • Educational experience after college (fellowships, summer study, or graduate course work to pursue greater depth in a subject area, specific instructional methodology, curriculum development, special education, technology, etc.)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement a coherent, research-based curriculum in consultation with Administration and Directors

  • Plan, implement, and execute engaging and rigorous daily standards-based lessons to ensure that all students master the required content.

  • Create comprehensive unit assessments aligned to standards and pacing plans

  • Identify students who are academically at risk and initiate effective intervention strategies.

  • Teach students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in an inclusion setting and implement IEPs as necessary

  • Document all syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, rubrics and other instructional materials and methods

  • Use consistent school-wide practices and a variety of individualized methods to engage students in the classroom

  • Document all lesson plans, assignments, rubrics and other instructional materials and methods

  • Use technology tools for instruction, planning, and communication and ensure student engagement

  • Measure student achievement and progress toward learning objectives using the school’s formative and summative assessment tools

  • Evaluate academic achievement through detailed data analysis of student performance on a wide variety of metrics

  • Provide ongoing and timely feedback to students on their progress toward meeting expectations and achieving goals

  • Use student data to reflect on the effectiveness of lessons and student achievement progress to improve instruction and personal practice

  • Submit assessment data and reports to the Principal in a timely manner

  • Create, and manage a responsive learning environment that enables students to feel safe, to be creative, and to develop to their full potential

  • Implement and enforce the school’s code of conduct

  • Organize and supervise approved field trips to enhance classroom learning.

  • Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.

  • Develop and use rubrics for evaluating student products and performances.

  • Oversee and assist with student arrival/dismissal.

  • Work closely with all members of school community, model citizenship, collaboration, and support of one another.

  • Other tasks as assigned by the Administration.

 

Compensation

A competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, including base salary and complete benefits, including 401K and health insurance coverage.

Salary Ranges

​

Lead Teacher: $65,000-$75,000- Merit-based salary increases

Resident Teacher: $50,000-$65,000-Merit based salary increases

Kindergarten Teachers: $50,000-$65,000-Merit based salary increases

After submitting your cover letter and resume, SHA will review your documents.  Candidates with a track record of success will be invited to an interview.  Candidates who are successful with the interview will be invited to present a demo lesson with the administration team of the school. Thereafter, each successful candidate will be presented with an offer of employment.
